Discover the original Florida, its beautiful surroundings and sandy beaches, away from the theme parks and busy night life of other areas. Here is a guide to the best locations worth visiting for holidays in Florida.
The sunshine state as it's famously known thankfully has plenty to offer to keep you entertained. No matter how long you are there for I very much doubt you will get bored. The beaches for a start have secluded coves, nature trails, barbecue areas and relaxed fishing piers and for the adrenaline fans there is surfing and water skiing.
Venturing away from the beach you have a choice of a number of sporting activities, cultural attractions and shopping opportunities. There is clearly much diversity available in Florida.
If you want to explore further then try Bradenton on the mainland which is ideal for art lovers since it features a village of arts. You can go on a self-guided tour of the community of artists including craft shops, art galleries and jewellery shops. Art lovers will also enjoy visiting the official museum of Florida which features Asian, American and European masterpieces. You will also be able to find the Tibbals Learning Center which is home to the miniature circus.
If you are brave and agile then you can try the flying trapeze at The Tito Gaoan Flying Trapeze Academy. There are often other circuses coming into town that put on a great show, Circus Sarasota is one not to miss.
Another hotspot is Anna Maria Island, one of the barrier islands. It is a short seven mile long and less than one mile wide while still offering plenty to do and see. Why not start with the largest estuary in Florida. From here you are able to watch roseate spoonbills, manatees and dolphins. You can even go fishing for redfish, speckled trout and snook. If you have
holidays in Florida in July you have the opportunity to join a morning turtle nesting tour of the beach on the island.
Hopefully you are amazed as much as I was when I discovered that there really is so much more to Florida than theme parks and relaxing in the sun.
